JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, produces line, halftone and color reproduction negatives, image assembly and plates for offset printing.
PRIMARY DUTIES
1. Performs pre-press technical activities related to offset
printing. Prepares line, halftone and color reproduction
negatives from photographs and drawings, strips mutli-color work
for presses and produces offset plates.
2. Photographs illustrations and artwork as well as produces film
used in preparation of offset printing plates.
3. Performs exposure tests to determine line, halftone and color
reproduction exposure lengths for various photographic factors
such as halftones, screens, films and light intensity.
4. Measures original layouts and determines proportions needed to
make reduced or enlarged photographic prints for paste-up.
5. Responds to inquiries and requests from clients, printers, and
artists and provides technical advice and information on
photolithography work.
6. Prepares and maintains production records, inventory and press
supplies.
7. Ensures the operational readiness and safety of equipment; cleans,
adjusts and makes minor repairs.
8. Operates standard equipment such as process cameras, film and
plate processors, exposure computers, densitometers, register
punches and plate makers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE: Four years pre-press photolithography experience, two years of which must have involved image assembly.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of and skill in pre-press photolithography functions and techniques. General knowledge of offset printing operations and equipment. Skill in performing image assembly; in preparing negatives and halftones; in producing offset plates. Ability to operate related cameras and processing equipment; to mix and prepare required chemicals; to lift, transport, and stock photolithography supplies, materials, and equipment; to make minor repairs to equipment; to wear and work in personal protective equipment; to perceive normal color spectrum; to communicate effectively; to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
OTHER:
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
