Help America Vote College Program

In February 2024, the USM was the only public university system in the U.S. that was awarded a highly competitive grant under the Help America Vote Act of 2002. The award totaled $78,521 and is administered by the United States Election Assistance Commission. The grant is intended to “recruit, train and support students serving as poll workers on Election Day” with the aim of assisting states and localities in administering elections, educating college students about the work associated with running an election, and demonstrating the potential of partnerships with universities to ensure efficacious Election Day operations.
