Regents to Present Staff Awards at Sept. 8 Meeting
ADELPHI, Md. (September 5, 2006) - The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of
Regents at its next meeting will present the 2006 Regents' Staff Awards,
honoring staff members who have made exceptional contributions to their
institutions and greater communities. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am Friday, September 8, in the Albin O. Kuhn Library at
the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).
Following are the awards and
the names of the honorees.

Exceptional Contribution to the Institution: Cynthia I.
Zimmerman, executive administrative
assistant, Office of Student Affairs, Towson University; Richard L. Tysor, assistant director of the University of Maryland
Biotechnology Institute's Center of Marine Biotechnology

Extraordinary Public Service to the University or to
the Greater Community: Marian C. Birkhead, administrative
assistant in the Department of Business, Management and Accounting, University
of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES); Gains
B. Hawkins, vice president for institutional advancement, UMES

Outstanding Service to Students in an Academic or
Residential Environment: Emma Sellers, program management
specialist, Department of Political Science, UMBC; Marylane McGlinchey, advising services coordinator for the Henson
School of Science and Technology, Salisbury University
Also at the meeting, the
board will consider a proposal to renovate space at Hornbake Library at the University of Maryland, College
Park, for use as
offices and labs for the College of Information Studies. In addition, USM Chancellor William E. Kirwan will
deliver his periodic report to the board.
