USM Board of Regents Meets October 22
Adelphi, Md. (Oct. 19,
2010) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its
next meeting will vote on energy-performance contracts at three USM
institutions and hear informational updates on several educational policy
initiatives.
The public meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday,
October 22 in the Hilda and Michael Bogomolny Room (5th floor) of
the Student Center at the University of Baltimore, 21 W. Mt. Royal Avenue,
Baltimore, Md.
The board will vote on whether to recommend approval of
energy-performance contracts sought by Bowie State University, Towson
University and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with different
energy service companies. Through energy-performance contracts, USM
institutions can reduce campus energy consumption and align with state goals
for carbon footprint reduction.
Among the educational policy
initiatives for discussion are institutional reports on closing the achievement
gap. The USM initiative to close the achievement gap addresses the
threat posed by the state's gap in college retention and degree completion for
lower income and under-represented students. The board also will hear a brief
summary of last month's presentation before the board's Education Policy
Committee regarding general education requirements.
Reports will be presented from the councils of university
system presidents, faculty, staff and students.
After the public meeting, the board
will meet in executive session.
