Regents To Hold Special Meeting March 11
ADELPHI,
Md. (March 10, 2009)-The University System of Maryland (USM)
Board of Regents will hold a special meeting Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at the
University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). The public meeting is scheduled to begin
at 11:45 am in the 14th-floor conference room of UMB's Saratoga Office
Building.
The agenda includes a discussion of the charge to the
University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute Ad Hoc Review Committee and a
proposed amendment to the board's Policy on Approval of Procurement Contracts.
Board Chairman Clifford Kendall has appointed the special
committee of regents to review the mission and organization of the University of Maryland Biotechnology
Institute (UMBI), one of USM's 13 institutions. The committee members are
Norman Augustine, Patricia Florestano, Michael Gill, Orlan Johnson, and Frank
Kelly. Kendall will serve as chair. The group will review UMBI's mission and current
structure, as well as consider alternative organization options, including
distribution of UMBI's four centers to other USM institutions.

Hunter-Cevera recently announced her decision to step down from the UMBI
presidency June 30, 2009. Chairman Kendall has stated that this period of
transition is an appropriate time to conduct the review.
