Princeton Review Names Three USM Institutions Among "Top 50 Best Values in Public Universities"
ADELPHI, Md. (January
12, 2009) - Three University System of Maryland (USM) institutions-Salisbury
University, Towson University, and University of Maryland, Baltimore County
(UMBC)-have placed among The Princeton
Review's "Top 50 Best Values in Public Universities" for 2009. The rankings recognize outstanding
institutions offering educational excellence with affordability.
Princeton Review
selects the best value public and private universities and colleges based on surveys
of administrators and students at more than 650 public and private college and
university campuses. Selection criteria include more than 30 factors in three
areas: academics, cost of attendance, and financial aid.
Princeton Review
cited Salisbury for its "stellar"
undergraduate business program and its innovative ABLE (Applied Business
Learning Experience) Internship Program that "eases the transition from
business student to business professional by requiring students to complete an
internship before graduation."
Towson was
lauded for "a wealth of program options" and accessible faculty that value
teaching and student engagement.
UMBC drew the Review's
praise for an "outstanding science and technology curriculum" buttressed by
"fantastic technological resources."
"USM is proud of these rankings because they confirm what is
our core mission and focus: to provide students affordable access to excellent
higher education," said USM Chancellor William E. Kirwan.
