Chancellor's Message to the Virginia Tech Community on Behalf of USM
On behalf of the Board of Regents and the students, faculty,
and staff of the University System of Maryland, I express our profound grief
and heartfelt sympathy to the Virginia Tech community over Monday's horrific
events. Most especially, we send our deepest condolences to the families of
those who have lost loved ones in this tragedy. We can only imagine the
grievous sense of pain and suffering all associated with the university are
experiencing at this moment.
No one can ever be prepared for a tragedy of this magnitude.
As time moves on, I know that the enduring quality of a great institution like
Virginia Tech will enable its students, faculty, staff, and alumni to move
forward even from such an unspeakable tragedy and profound loss as this. In the
meantime, the members of the Virginia Tech community will remain in our
thoughts and prayers.
