USM Board of Regents to Meet April 21
Meeting
to Include Presentation of Regents Faculty Awards, Vote on Tuition Rates
Adelphi, Md. (April 19, 2017) -- The University System of Maryland
(USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting will present Regents Awards to
faculty members and vote on proposed tuition rates for the 2017-18 academic
year. Additionally, Nancy Zimpher, Ph.D., chancellor of the State University of
New York (SUNY), will deliver the meeting's educational forum.
The public
session will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, April 21 in the Atrium of the Adele H.
Stamp Student Union at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP).
The Regents
Awards are the highest honor presented by the Board of Regents to exemplary
faculty members. The awards honor excellence in four categories: teaching,
public service, mentoring, and scholarship/research/creative activity. (During
a special reception before the public meeting, the board will honor each winner
individually. The group then will be recognized collectively during the
meeting.)
The
fiscal-year 2018 resident (in-state) undergraduate full‐time and
part‐time tuition rates, along with summer school rates, will not increase by
more than 2%. SUNY
Chancellor Zimpher's education forum will discuss how public higher education entities
such as SUNY and the USM can enhance the greater good by leveraging their power
as a system, a concept known as "systemness."
The regents
will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty,
staff and students. The full agenda, with supporting materials for each agenda
item, is here.
After the
public meeting, the board will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session
to discuss items that fall under categories specifically exempted from public
consideration under the Open Meetings Act. These items include various
personnel matters, acquisition of real property, collective bargaining, legal
matters, and any item requiring consideration in closed session to comply with
a specific statutory requirement.
Sign
language interpreters and/or other appropriate accommodations for eligible
individuals with disabilities will be provided upon request. Please call
301.445.2756 (voice) or 301.314.7683 (TTY/ITT) for special arrangements.
