USM Regents Committees on Finance, Economic Development and Technology Commercialization, and Organization and Compensation Meet January 26

Adelphi, Md. (Jan. 24, 2017) -- Three committees of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will hold meetings on Thursday, January 26. The meetings will take place at the College Park Marriott & Conference Center at University of Maryland University College (UMUC), 3501 University Blvd. East, Adelphi, MD.

First, the Committee on Organization and Compensation will meet at 8 a.m. in the Chasen Family Room. In public session, the committee will hear information updates on the USM consultant study and status reports on presidential search committees and 5-year presidential reviews. The committee will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss items specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public consideration. Those items include personnel matters, collective bargaining agreements, and pending litigation. The agenda and supporting materials are available here.

At 10 a.m., the Committee on Finance will vote publicly in Chesapeake Salon A on whether to reconvene in closed session to consider items specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public consideration. Those items are a real property acquisition and awarding of new contracts for scientific supplies and hardware.

The public session is scheduled to resume at 10:45 a.m. in the Chesapeake Ballroom. The committee will vote on an informational presentation of the Coppin State University facilities master plan. It will also vote on funding authorization for repairs to Millennium Hall at Towson University and technical amendments to USM Policy VIII-2.0 on student classification for admission and tuition purposes. The Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will meet at 12:20 p.m. in the Chesapeake Ballroom. The agenda includes an information item regarding featured start-up N5 Sensors, Inc., founded by a former faculty member at University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). The company is commercializing high-performance sensors and detectors, utilizing technology licensed from UMCP. The committee will be briefed on a federal grant to establish the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL), a cost-shared $70 million agreement with the National Institute of Standards and Technology to advance U.S. biopharmaceutical manufacturing with UMCP and University of Maryland, Baltimore as key partners.
