USM Board of Regents to Hold Annual Retreat
Adelphi, Md. (Nov. 28,
2016) -- The
University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will hold its annual
retreat on Wednesday, November 30 at the Westin Annapolis Hotel. The address is
100 Westgate Circle, Annapolis, MD.
The retreat begins at 8 a.m.
in the Annapolis Ballroom with a public vote on whether to reconvene in closed
session. In closed session, the board would discuss matters that fall under the
guidelines of the Open Meetings Act. Those matters are Board of Regents
organization and meeting formats and development of fiscal year 2018 operating
and capital budgets for USM.
The public session is scheduled to
begin at 8:45 a.m. The morning session will have updates on several ongoing issues,
including Senate Bill 1052, the USM Strategic Plan Update, and the USM
Scorecard publication on USM core strategic priorities.
The lunch speaker will be Cathy A.
Trower, president of a governance consulting and coaching firm (Trower &
Trower, Inc.) that has provided such services to more than 130 nonprofits in
sectors ranging from universities to hospitals to associations. She is a former
research director at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Afternoon discussions include an update
on USM's Effectiveness & Efficiency 2.0 initiative and statewide economic
