USM Regents Committees on Finance, Economic Development and Technology Commercialization, and Organization and Compensation Meet September 8
Adelphi, Md. (Sept. 6, 2016) -- With the return of the academic
year, three committees of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of
Regents will hold meetings on Thursday, Sept. 8.
The meetings will
take place in the President's Board Room, 14th floor of the Saratoga
Office Building at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). The building is
located at 220 North Arch Street in Baltimore, Md.
At 8 a.m., the
Committee on Organization and Compensation will meet in public session and vote
on proposed recommendations regarding compensation options for the USM
chancellor and USM presidents before voting on whether to reconvene in closed
session. (Changes regarding chancellor's and presidents' compensation options
must be approved at a later time by the full board.)
In closed session,
the committee would discuss the following items specifically exempted in the
Open Meetings Act from public consideration. Those items are: an update
from staff and counsel regarding collective bargaining negotiations between
several institutions and the Fraternal Order of Police and, additionally, an
unfair labor practice complaint against an institution; several employment contracts
subject to special review pursuant to Board of Regents policy VII-10.0; and legal

At 10 a.m., the
Committee on Finance will vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session
to consider an item specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public
consideration. That item is a real property acquisition in Salisbury, Md. The
public session is scheduled to resume at 10:15 a.m., during which the committee
will hear a presentation of the Bowie State University facilities master plan.
The committee also will vote on a resolution of intent to reimburse USM cash balances
spent on revenue-bond authorization projects and a lease of space in the UMB
School of Nursing for an urgent care center for University of Maryland Midtown

The Committee on
Economic Development and Technology Commercialization will meet at 12:20 p.m. The
committee will hear a presentation from gel-e Life Sciences, a startup that has
developed an advanced wound care platform based on technology from UMCP. The
committee also will hear updates regarding the Center for Maryland Advanced
Ventures and the USM Economic Development Office. The agenda
