James N. Holzapfel Appointed to USM Board of Regents
Adelphi, Md. (Aug. 16,
2016) -- The University System of Maryland
(USM) welcomes James N. Holzapfel to the USM Board of Regents. Maryland Gov.
Larry Hogan has announced the appointment of Holzapfel, an investment advisor and
managing director of the Holzapfel Investment Group in Hagerstown, Md.
Holzapfel earned a degree from the University of
Maryland School of Business and completed the three-year Securities Industry
Institute® (SII) at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business. He
joined Kidder, Peabody & Co., a predecessor firm to Wells Fargo Advisors,
in 1971 and has earned numerous firm, industry and civic awards for his
professionalism and expertise, including earning Outstanding Branch Manager and
Professional Excellence honors.
His ties to the
greater University of Maryland community include the service of his
grandfather, Henry Holzapfel, on the University of Maryland's governing board
in the 1930s. Consistently named by Barron's
as one of America's top 1,200 financial advisors, James Holzapfel has also
been recognized as a top advisor in the Winner's Circle in Research Magazine and Top 100 Wirehouse Advisors by Wealth Management. His board
affiliations in western Maryland and throughout the state include leadership in
area charitable foundations, committee designations and historical
enterprises.
With the exception of
the student regent, each regent is appointed to a five-year term and may not
serve more than two consecutive full terms. Holzapfel's appointment is
effective immediately. He succeeds Regent David Kinkopf, a partner in the
Baltimore law firm Gallagher Evelius & Jones, LLP, who had served on the
board since July 2011. In early July, the appointment of several new regents was announced.

A 17-member Board of Regents,
including one full-time student, governs the University System of Maryland.
Appointed by the governor, the regents oversee the system's academic,
administrative, and financial operations; formulate policy; and appoint the USM
chancellor and the presidents of the system's 12 institutions. With the
exception of the student member, each regent is appointed for a term of five
years and may not serve more than two consecutive terms. The student regent is
appointed for a one-year term and may be reappointed. Regents serve on the
board without compensation.
