Attorney D'Ana E. Johnson Appointed to USM Board of Regents
Adelphi, Md. (Feb. 10, 2016) -- The University
System of Maryland (USM) welcomes attorney D'Ana E. Johnson to the Board of
Regents. Her appointment, made by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and confirmed
by the Maryland Senate, is effective immediately.
Johnson succeeds
Regent Louise Michaux Gonzales, whose five-year term of service has expired.
A resident
of Anne Arundel County, Johnson has extensive experience in the practice of law
and belongs to numerous professional associations. Since 2002 she has been a
partner with the firm of Bonner Kiernan Trebach & Crociata LLP in
Washington, D.C. She joined the firm
after serving as managing partner for the Washington office of Allen, Johnson, Alexander
& Karp.

also like to salute the years of hard work from Regent Louise Michaux Gonzales,
who served with distinction as a chair of the Committee on Education Policy and
Student Life and brought keen insight on many issues during this sometimes
challenging time in higher education."
Johnson's
legal practice has centered on the representation of policyholders of various
national insurance companies and self-insured corporate entities. She has
practiced law for more than 40 years, after earning her law degree in 1972 at
Georgetown Law Center.
Her bar
memberships include the U.S. Supreme Court, the District of Columbia Court of
Appeals, and the Court of Appeals of Maryland. She has been a member of the
District of Columbia Defense Lawyers' Association since 1983.
Johnson
earned her undergraduate degree at Morgan State University.
A 17-member Board of Regents,
including one full-time student, governs the University System of Maryland.
Appointed by the governor, the regents oversee the system's academic,
administrative, and financial operations; formulate policy; and appoint the USM
chancellor and the presidents of the system's 12 institutions. With the
exception of the student member, each regent is appointed for a term of five
years and may not serve more than two consecutive terms. The student regent is
appointed for a one-year term and may be reappointed. Regents serve on the
board without compensation.
The University System of Maryland
