USM Regents Committees on Finance and Economic Development Meet January 28
Adelphi, Md. (Jan. 22, 2016) -- The University System of Maryland
(USM) Board of Regents Committee on Finance will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday,
January 28, and consider three action items, including proposed revisions to
USM procurement policies and procedures. The meeting will be held at Towson
University in the West Village Common, Ballroom A. Parking is available in the
West Village Garage.
The
revisions to procurement procedures reflect a comprehensive review aimed at
providing a procurement process of quality, broad-based competition, and
uniformity. Other actions before the committee include a lease renewal for
University of Maryland University College.
The committee also will vote on whether to reconvene in closed session
to discuss items that fall under closing guidelines of the Open Meetings Act.
Those items are two real property acquisitions in the City of College Park (Md.)
and City of Salisbury (Md.). The full agenda and supporting materials can be
accessed here.
At noon, the Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization
would vote publicly on whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss an
impending request-for-proposals to rebid the contract to operate the National
Cancer Institute's FFRDC (federally funded research and development center).
In public session, the committee will hear several information items.
They include a presentation from featured start-up Grip Boost, LLC, a
collaboration developed with University of Maryland, College Park engineering
students to develop a quick-drying polymer-gel that restores grip in worn-down
football gloves. R. Michael Gill, secretary of the Maryland Department of
Commerce, will discuss the department's ongoing strategic planning process and
emerging priorities. The full agenda and supporting materials can be accessed here.
