Board to Vote on Moving
Expenses Policy, Building Naming Proposal
Adelphi, Md. (Dec. 7,
2015) - The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its
next meeting will vote on a change in the policy on payment of moving expenses.
The board also will vote on a request from the University of Maryland, College
Park (UMCP) regarding the name of Byrd Stadium.
The public session is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
Friday, December 11 in the Atrium of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union at the
University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP).
The action item on the moving expenses practice is a minor
revision to the Board of Regents policy on payment of moving expenses (allowing
institutions to determine moving expense limitations, while maintaining
compliance with IRS reporting guidelines).
The building naming request comes from UMCP President
Wallace D. Loh to rename Byrd Stadium to Maryland Stadium. President Loh's
request stems from input received by a 20-member workgroup of UMCP faculty,
students, staff, and administrators, a workgroup that studied the subject
during the balance of the fall semester.
President Loh asked the workgroup specifically not to make a
recommendation, but to present feedback for his consideration from a host of
sources regarding the stadium naming issue. In advance of the meeting, to
facilitate the board's interest in hearing from all sides regarding the
proposed stadium name change, the public may send comments to the board's
attention at: stadium@usmd.edu.
The regents will hear reports from the councils of
university system presidents, faculty, staff and students. The full agenda,

After the public meeting, the board will vote on whether to
reconvene in executive session to discuss ongoing legislative audits, status of
a presidential search, building naming requests from two USM institutions and
personnel, legal, and investigative issues, matters that fall under closing
guidelines of the Open Meetings Act.
