USM Regents Committees on Finance, Economic Development Meet September 10
Adelphi, Md. (Sept. 8,
2015) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee
on Finance and the Committee on Economic Development and Technology
Commercialization will meet on Thursday, September 10. Both meetings will take
place in the West Village Commons at Towson University, in Ballroom C.
At 10 a.m., the Committee on Finance will vote publicly on
whether to reconvene in closed session. In closed session, the committee would
consider items specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from public
consideration. Those items are the appointments of individuals to the University
of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Research Park Board; the awarding of a
contract for provision of technical and student services support; initial
preparation of the USM 2017 operating budget document; and investment of the
USM Common Trust Fund.
During the public session, scheduled to reconvene at 10:45 a.m., the committee will vote on an off-campus lease for the University of
Maryland Eastern Shore and the transfer of a property gift from the Salisbury
University Foundation to Salisbury University. The committee will hear
information items on the Towson University facilities master plan and a review
of capital improvement projects.

The Committee on Economic Development and Technology
Commercialization will meet at 12:20 p.m. USM Chancellor Robert L. Caret will
offer his comments and perspective to the committee. The committee will be
briefed on the latest report on new company formation and hear a presentation
regarding a new ventures accelerator initiative. The featured startup, Maryland
Development Center, will discuss its work in providing resources to translate
intellectual property into valuable companies. The agenda and supporting
