USM Board of Regents Meets June 19, Receives USM Annual Report
Final Meeting of the Full Board
for Chancellor Kirwan
Adelphi,
Md. (June 17, 2015) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of
Regents at its next meeting will vote on several new academic program proposals,
consider the fiscal year (FY) 2017 capital budget request, and receive the
Chancellor's annual report.
The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. on
Friday, June 19 at The Atrium at Perdue Hall, on the campus of Salisbury
University. The address is 1101 Camden Avenue, Salisbury, MD.
This is the final scheduled meeting of
the full Board of Regents for USM Chancellor William E. "Brit" Kirwan, who in
May 2014 announced his plans to step aside as chancellor upon the appointment
of a successor. The board last December appointed University of Massachusetts System
President Robert L. Caret, a past president of Towson University, as the next
USM chancellor. Chancellor Kirwan will serve through June 30 and will be
succeeded by Dr. Caret on July 1.
Resolutions of Appreciation will be
offered to the following regents whose service on the board recently ended or will
end on June 30: Earl Hance; C. Thomas McMillen; Catherine Motz; Tracye Turner;
Paul Vance (posthumously); and student regent Raheela Ahmed.
The new academic programs under consideration are a
B.S. in health sciences at Coppin State University, several B.A. programs in
music at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and an M.S. in learning
design and technology at University of Maryland University College.
The regents will also hear reports from the
councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff and students.
After the public meeting, the board will vote on
whether to meet in closed session. In closed session, the board would discuss
issues specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from the requirement for
public consideration. Those issues include meetings with two USM presidents for
their performance reviews; recommendations for Regents Staff Awards; property
acquisitions in the City of Baltimore; performance review of the chancellor,
and a request for Regents Professor appointment.
