USM Board of Regents Approves Tuition Rates for Fiscal Year 2016
Adelphi, Md. (May 6, 2015) -- The University System of Maryland
(USM) Board of Regents today approved a schedule of tuition rates and student fees
for fiscal year (FY) 2016, or the academic year of 2015-16.
The tuition rates reflect a 5%
increase in resident (in-state) tuition for undergraduate students. At the flagship
University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) campus, the per-semester increase
is $194, or $388 for the full academic year.
At most USM institutions, the range
in annual increase for in-state undergraduate students is between $205 (Coppin
State University) and the $388 annual increase at UMCP. The University of
Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) increased its in-state, undergraduate tuition
by 7%, reflecting the system-wide 5% increase and an additional 2%
to match a mid-year (January 2015) increase previously implemented by
some USM institutions but deferred at UMBC. System-wide, out-of-state undergraduate
full-time rates will increase up to 5%.
The schedule of tuition rates and
fees can be found on the meeting agenda here. An archive of recent-year schedules for tuition/fees,
and room and board, is posted here by the USM Office of Administration
and Finance.
In a separate action, the board
approved a request from UMCP to offer undergraduate differential pricing,
starting in 2015-16, for juniors and seniors in three majors: business,
engineering, and computer science. UMCP requested the differential pricing
to manage the higher cost of instruction for these disciplines while still
advancing growth, access, and quality.
Increases for in-state graduate and
professional full-time tuition range from an average of 5% to 13.1%. Full-time rates for out-of-state graduate and professional students
will increase up to 5%.
