USM Board of Regents Meets April 10, Presents Regents Faculty Awards
Adelphi, Md. (April
8, 2015) -- The University System
of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting will present Regents
Awards to faculty members and vote on proposed regional tuition rates for two
campuses and on-site classes at the USM regional center in Hagerstown.
The public meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 10,
in Elm Room 208A of the Southern Management Corporation Conference Center at
the University of Maryland, Baltimore. The address is 621 W. Lombard St.,
Baltimore, MD.
The Regents Awards are the highest honor presented by the
Board of Regents to exemplary faculty members. The awards honor excellence in four
categories: teaching; public service; mentoring; and research/scholarship. (During
a private reception before the public meeting, the board will honor each winner
individually. The group then will be recognized collectively before the general
public.)
Frostburg State University, the University of Maryland Eastern
Shore (UMES), and institutions offering on-site programs at the USM Hagerstown
Center have proposed special out-of-state regional tuition rates. The
institutions are seeking to attract enrollment and increase retention rates by
providing more financially competitive opportunities to out-of-state students
who live in select, bordering areas with very close proximity to campus.
Other action items include a vote on a proposed schedule of
room and board fees for 2015-16. The board also will hear reports from the
councils of university system presidents, faculty, staff and students. The full
agenda, with supporting materials, can be accessed here.
The board will vote at the end of its public agenda on
whether to reconvene in closed session to discuss personnel, legal, statutory and
contractual items that fall under the closing guidelines of the Open Meetings
Act.

appropriate accommodations for eligible individuals with disabilities will be
