USM Board of Regents Meets February 13, Votes on Effectiveness and Efficiency 2.0 Initiative

-- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting
will vote on a proposed Effectiveness and Efficiency 2.0 (E&E 2.0)
Initiative.
The
public session of the meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday, February 13 in
the Student Center, Wiseman Conference Room at Bowie State University. The
campus address is 14000 Jericho Park Road, Bowie, MD.
An E&E 2.0 Workgroup, formed in fall 2014, was charged to
create a structure for improving USM's overall academic quality and increasing
the value of higher education to the benefit of the citizens of Maryland, all
while reducing costs. E&E 2.0 initiatives should support pursuit of USM
2020 Strategic Plan priorities. The Workgroup proposal includes near-term plans
for high-impact efficiency initiatives during the current fiscal year. A
longer-term E&E framework will promote further innovation,
entrepreneurship, and accountability.
The board will vote on new academic programs at various institutions and a proposed new business model for University of Maryland University College (UMUC). The
new academic programs are a B.S. in adventure sports management at Frostburg
State University; a B.A. in philosophy, society and applied ethics at the
University of Baltimore; and an M.S. in cloud computing architecture at UMUC.
The
board will receive several other information items, including the 2015
legislative update and the review of 5-year enrollment data for new academic
programs. The regents will hear reports from the councils of university system
presidents, faculty, staff and students.
After
the public meeting, the board will vote on whether to reconvene in closed
session to discuss items that fall under categories specifically exempted from
public consideration under the Open Meetings Act.
These
items are presidential performance reviews; recommendations for Regents'
Faculty Awards; nominations for honorary degrees and consideration of honorific
naming requests; ongoing legislative audit matters; and discussion of
investigative matters that may lead to criminal prosecution.
