USM News Advisory: Introduction of Chancellor-designate Robert L. Caret on Friday, December 19 (2:30 p.m.)

2014 (Adelphi, Md.) -- On behalf of the University System of Maryland (USM)
Board of Regents, Board Chair James L. Shea will introduce Robert L. Caret,
president of the University of Massachusetts System, as the next chancellor of
the USM. Chairman Shea will make the introduction during a news conference at
2:30 p.m., Friday, December 19.
The news conference will be held at the Columbus Center, 701 E. Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD. Details for

St., Baltimore, MD, in the Multi-Purpose Room. (Members of the Columbus Center
building staff are available to indicate location. The Columbus Center is home to the Institute of Marine & Environmental Technology, or IMET.)
WHAT: James L. Shea, Chair of the
University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents, introduction of Robert L.
Caret as next chancellor of the University System of Maryland.
In June 2014,
Chairman Shea announced the appointment of a 10-member search-and-screening
committee to recruit and review candidates for chancellor of the system.
William E. "Brit" Kirwan, USM chancellor since August 2002, announced in May
2014 his plans to step down from the position. The chair of the search committee
is Rick O. Berndt, managing partner of Gallagher Evelius & Jones LLP, a
Baltimore law firm. Berndt is also a former member of the USM Board of Regents.
Media are invited to attend the announcement and participate
in a question-and-answer period. Parking is available in a number of public
garages near the Center, all visible from Pratt Street.
