USM Board of Regents Committees on Finance, Economic Development Meet November 20
Adelphi, Md. (Nov. 18,
2014) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents Committee
on Finance and the Committee on Economic Development and Technology Commercialization
will meet on Thursday, Nov. 20. Both meetings will take place at the University
of Maryland University College (UMUC) Inn and Conference Center, 3501
University Blvd. East, Adelphi, MD.
The Committee on Finance will meet at 10 a.m. in the Chasen
Family Room, on the conference center's main level, and vote publicly on
whether to reconvene in closed session. In closed session, the committee would
discuss an issue specifically exempted in the Open Meetings Act from the
requirement for public consideration, regarding the awarding of multiple vendor
contracts to provide various audio-visual services.
At approximately 10:15 a.m., the committee will reconvene in
public session to consider action items on the UMUC facilities master plan, a
contract renewal at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), and a
renovation and expansion of the Cole Student Activities Building at the
University of Maryland, College Park. The committee also will hear an
information report on opening fall 2014 enrollment. The agenda and supporting

The Committee on Economic Development and Technology
Commercialization will meet at noon in the Chesapeake Ballroom. It will receive
a presentation from Profectus Biosciences, a clinical stage biotechnology
company that was launched from the Institute of Human Virology at UMB and
recently received a $8.6 million federal contract to accelerate advancement of
its candidate Ebola vaccine into human clinical studies.
The committee also will hear information items on the new
federally funded research and development center on cyber security with the
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the impact of USM
entrepreneurial programs and policies. The agenda and supporting materials are here.
