USM Schools among Nation's Best in Recent U.S. News Rankings
Adelphi, Md. (Sept. 10, 2014) -- University System of Maryland (USM)
schools once again have been recognized among the nation's top universities in recent
rankings by multiple publications.
The U.S. News & World Report 2015 edition of America's Best
Colleges released this month recognizes several USM institutions for academic
excellence.
The University of Maryland,
College Park (UMCP) was ranked 20th among
all U.S. national public universities. The Robert H. Smith School of Business was ranked 21st nationally,
with six specialties ranked in the top 25. In addition, the A. James Clark
School of Engineering's aerospace engineering specialty ranked 10th and
mechanical engineering specialty ranked 21st. U.S. News also recognized the university for its first-year
freshmen experience and learning communities.
The
University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) ranked No. 1 among
"up-and-coming" national universities for the sixth straight year. UMBC ranked
fifth on the list of campuses with an "unusually strong commitment to
undergraduate teaching"-ahead of Yale, Brown, and Stanford. Moreover, the
publication recognized UMBC for prioritizing intensive undergraduate research
and creative work.
U.S. News ranked the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Bowie State
University in the top tier of America's historically black institutions, at 23rd
and 25th, respectively. Towson University was ranked 15th
among top public regional universities.
The publication also recognized
Salisbury University one of its Best Colleges for 2014. In the northern region,
Salisbury ranked 65th in the top tier among 181 publics and privates. It also
was named among the "Best Colleges for Vets" and "A-plus Schools for B Students."
