Tim Chandler Appointed Acting President of Towson University
Adelphi,
Md. (Aug. 21, 2014)—University System
of Maryland (USM) Chancellor William E. Kirwan has appointed Tim Chandler as
acting president of Towson University (TU), effective today. Chandler has served as provost and vice
president for academic affairs at Towson since January 2013.
The appointment follows TU
President Maravene Loeschke’s announcement that she is taking a leave of
absence through December 2014 due to health and personal challenges.
“The members of the USM
Board of Regents and I respect President Loeschke’s need at this time to focus
on the issues that she is facing,” said Kirwan. “She, of course, has our full
support and best wishes for a speedy recovery and return to the presidency.”
“We are pleased that Vice
President Chandler has accepted the appointment as acting president,” Kirwan also
said. “During his tenure at Towson, he has proven to be an effective and
committed academic leader. We are confident that he will help the university
maintain its forward momentum over the next few months.”
