Education Policy Committee Agenda Includes New Degree Programs and Fall Enrollments
ADELPHI, Md. (November 10, 2006) — A report on enrollments for the 2006-2007 academic
year and faculty workload are among the topics to be addressed at the upcoming
meeting of the Committee on Education Policy of the University System of
Maryland (USM) Board of Regents. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2006. It will be held in the 2nd Floor
Conference Room of the Thurgood Marshall Library, Bowie State University, 14000 Jericho Park Road, Bowie, Maryland.
The information/discussion
items include:

Middle States
Commission’s reaccreditation of the University of Maryland University College
(UMUC) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB);
·
Update on
UMCP’s efforts to establish a
collaborative School of Public Health with UMB;
·
Opening Fall 2006
Enrollment and FY 2007 Estimated FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) Enrollment Report;
·
The instructional
workload of USM faculty;
·
Maryland Higher
Education Commission’s Student Outcome and Achievement Report and Low
Productivity Report 2006.
Among the action items on the
committee’s agenda is a proposal to exempt Salisbury University from Board of Regents Policy III-4:00, which requires
applicants to USM institutions to submit standardized test scores for undergraduate
admissions. The waiver would facilitate Salisbury’s proposed five-year pilot
study of an SAT-optional admissions process for applicants with a high school
GPA of 3.5 or higher. In addition, the committee will consider proposals for two
new bachelor of science programs (history and professional golf management) at the
University of Maryland Eastern Shore and a systemwide policy for awarding posthumous
degrees.
