USM Regents Committee on Education Policy and Student Life Meets Oct. 15
Adelphi, Md. (Oct. 11,
2013) - The Committee on Education Policy and Student Life of the
University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents will meet in public
session at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15.
The committee will hear several information items at the
meeting, to be held in the multi-purpose room of the Christopher Columbus
Center, 710 E. Pratt Street, Baltimore.
The committee will conduct a review of its role and function,
in order to refine the agenda for the current academic year. It will also
discuss a charge from the Board of Regents to examine the complexities of
financial aid and develop recommendations to the full board on how financial
aid can enhance degree completion.
Other information items before the committee include a
presentation from representatives of the University System of Maryland and
Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) Library Consortium and an update on the
Maryland Open Source Textbook Initiative.
The committee also will hear reports on academic programs
delegated to the Chancellor for 2012-13 and the success of new academic
programs approved during the past five years. The committee then will vote on
whether to reconvene in closed session. In closed session, the Committee would
meet to consult with counsel to obtain legal advice regarding the U.S. District
Court's decision issued (Oct. 7, 2013) in the Coalition for Equity and Excellence
in Maryland Higher Education, et al. v. Maryland Higher Education Commission,
et al.
