USM Board of Regents to Take Action on Recommendations/Implementation Plan to Strengthen Coppin State
Chancellor Kirwan to Deliver FY 2013
Annual Report
Adelphi, Md. (June
19, 2013) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting
will vote on several action items, including 11 proposed academic programs and
the report and implementation plan prepared by the board's special review
committee on Coppin State University.
The public session of the
meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, at the Richard A. Henson
Center Ballroom on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore
(UMES), located at 1 Backbone Road, Princess Anne, MD.
The academic program
proposals were approved at the recent meeting of the Board of Regents Committee
on Education Policy and Student Life.
The report on Coppin State University addresses the questions
that informed the board's special review and outlines strategies to help build
the institution's long-term future. The report was discussed during a special
meeting last month at Coppin State. The proposed implementation plan is
organized around the three specific report goals, with specific actions and
activities for each goal.
In December 2012, the board
established a committee to conduct a comprehensive review of Coppin State
University (CSU) and develop strategies to increase student retention and
graduation rates, improve administrative operations and financial stability,
and build a culture focused on success.
The regents also will hear
the Chancellor's annual report and reports from the councils of university
system presidents, faculty, staff and students. After the public meeting, the
board will vote on whether to reconvene in executive session.
