USM Campuses Recognized for Grad School Excellence, Community Service, Sustainability

Adelphi, Md. (April 19, 2013) -- Professional schools at the University of Maryland, College Park, the University of Maryland, Baltimore and the University of Baltimore are among the leaders in graduate school rankings published recently by U.S. News & World Report.

The magazine recognized several professional schools that are part of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), located on the city of Baltimore's west side.

The School of Medicine ranked No. 37 among medical schools for the second straight year, an improvement of three spots from 2010. The School of Nursing was ranked No. 11 nationally. The School of Law tied with three institutions at a ranking of No. 41.

The University of Baltimore School of Law tied with six institutions, with a ranking at No. 134.

At the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), several schools received prominent rankings. The A. James Clark School of Engineering ranked No. 19 nationally. The College of Education was ranked No. 23. The Robert H. Smith School of Business ranked No. 37 among MBA programs in the country. The Computer Science program at UMCP ranked No. 14 nationally.

Meanwhile, the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll recognized Towson University with "distinction" on its list honoring colleges and universities across the country for community service. Towson was the only school in Maryland to receive the "distinction" recognition. Towson has been honored each year since the award's inception.

Other USM schools named to the Honor Roll were UMCP, Frostburg State, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), and the University of Baltimore.

The Princeton Review Guide to 322 Green Colleges: 2013 Edition recognized several USM institutions. They are Frostburg State, Salisbury University, Towson University, UMBC, and UMCP. The guide recognizes institutions "that demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability in their academic offerings, campus infrastructure, activities and career preparation. The guide is the only free, comprehensive, annually updated guide to green colleges."
