USM Regents Meet Friday, October 27
ADELPHI, Md. (October 24, 2006)-The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of
Regents will meet at 8:30 am Friday, October 27, at Coppin State University in
Baltimore. The meeting will be in Room 218 of the university's Dining Facility.
The meeting will open with a forum
on the Spellings Commission Report. Montgomery College President Charlene
Nunley, who served on the commission, will lead the discussion. U.S. Secretary
of Education Margaret Spellings' Commission on the Future of Higher Education
recently released the report, which provides wide-ranging recommendations to
make higher education more accessible, affordable, and responsive.
Also at Friday's meeting, the
board is scheduled to take action on the following:

Waiver of certain
residency requirements for relocating civilian employees of the U.S. Armed
Forces under BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure Commission) 2005;

Proposal for a
master of real estate development program at the University of Maryland, College
Park;
-
Guidelines for
the Board of Regents Public Ethics Policy.

items include:

K-16 Update,
including USM grant-funded partnerships and the state's K-16 Leadership
Council;

Status Report on
Teacher Education in the USM;
-
USM Report on
Transfer Students;
-
University of Baltimore's Facilities Master Plan 2004-2014;
-
Review of USM's
Capital Improvement Projects.
Other agenda items include USM
Chancellor William E. Kirwan's report to the board and reports from the
systemwide councils of presidents, faculty, staff, and students.
