USM Board of Regents Meets December 7
Adelphi, Md. (Dec. 5,
2012) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its
next meeting will vote on a proposed change in the name of the Committee on
Education Policy and the facilities master plan for the University of Maryland
Center for Environmental Science.
The public meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday, December 7,
on the Concourse of the Physical Education Complex at Coppin State University,
2500 W. North Avenue, Baltimore, MD.
During a discussion at the October meeting of the Committee
on Education Policy of its role, function, and annual agenda, it was suggested that
a name change might more appropriately reflect the committee's responsibilities
regarding student life. Inclusion of "student life" in the
committee's title would put appropriate focus on the committee's work regarding
student perspectives and issues.
In other action, the board will vote on a proposal to
establish a committee to conduct a comprehensive review of Coppin State University
(CSU) and develop strategies to
increase student retention and graduation rates, improve administrative
operations and financial stability, and build a culture focused on success. A
transition in leadership at CSU provides the board an opportunity to consider
such a review.
Reports will be presented from the councils of university
system presidents, faculty, staff and students.
After the public meeting, the
board will meet in executive session.
Parking is available in the adjacent Lot H to the Physical
Education Complex. For driving directions to Coppin State University and a
