USM Board of Regents Committees on Finance, Economic Development Meet November 15
Adelphi, Md. (Nov.
12, 2012) -- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents
Committee on Finance at its next meeting will vote on a revision to the policy
on endowment fund spending and the facilities master plan for the University of
Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES).
The committee first will announce it is convening in
executive session at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 15, in Room 2110 of the University
of Maryland University College (UMUC) Inn and Conference Center, 3501
University Blvd. East, Adelphi, MD. The committee is scheduled to meet in
public session at 11:15 a.m. in rooms 2101/2103/2105.
The policy change regarding endowment fund spending, to be
voted on during the public session, reduces the target spending rate from the
current 4.75% to 4.25% and reduces the administrative cost reimbursement rate
from the current 0.95% to 0.5%. The UMCES facilities master plan for 2012-2022 sets
forth a strategy for reinvestment in existing facilities to address the
existing deferred maintenance backlog and improve efficiency of the current
physical plant.
The committee also will hear several information items,
including reports on opening fall 2012 enrollment and the USM financial aid
report for fiscal years 2007-2011. The agenda and supporting materials can be

The Committee on Economic Development and Technology
Commercialization will convene first in executive session at 12:15 p.m. The public
session is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in rooms 2101/2103/2105.
The committee will hear several information items. The Hon.
Jacques S. Gansler will brief the committee on the Maryland Proof of Concept
Alliance at the University of Maryland, College Park, which entered into a
cooperative research agreement with the Army Research Lab to foster technology
commercialization efforts throughout the USM. The committee also will be
updated on a USM economic impact study and a planning meeting last month with
non-research USM institutions regarding best practices for entrepreneurial
programs and initiatives.
