USM Board of Regents Meets September 28
Adelphi, Md. (Sept.
24, 2012)
-- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting will vote on a proposed revision to the policy
governing intercollegiate athletics and recognize recipients of the 2012 USM
Regents Staff Awards.
The
public session of the meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday, September 28 in
the Special Collections Room of the Thurgood Marshall
Library at Bowie State University, located at 14000 Jericho Park Road, Bowie,
MD.
The
proposed policy regarding intercollegiate athletics (ICA) improves financial
transparency by requiring disclosure of finances held by affiliated foundations
on behalf of ICA, information on debt and other commitments of ICA programs,
and the nature of bonus incentives afforded coaches and athletic directors.
Review of intercollegiate athletics would be the focus of a new Board of
Regents Intercollegiate Athletics workgroup, to meet three to four times
annually.
The
board will acknowledge USM staff who received the annual USM Regents Staff
Awards. These honorees from various USM institutions will be recognized during a
separate morning reception before the public meeting.
The
regents will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents,
faculty, staff and students. After the public meeting, the board will meet in
executive session.
