USM Board of Regents Meeting Scheduled for November 2
Adelphi, Md. (Oct.
29, 2012)
-- The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents at its next meeting will
vote on a proposal to establish a USM Center on Academic Transformation and
hear an educational forum regarding USM strategies in fundraising and other
advancement areas.
The
public session of the meeting is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Friday, November 2 at
the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory/Bernie Fowler Lab Conference Room at the
University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) in Solomons,
MD. The facility is located at 146 Williams Street in Solomons, MD.
At
its recent retreat, the Board of Regents engaged in a thorough discussion about
transformation of the academic model, including course redesign and other
innovative learning models. The creation of a Center for Academic
Transformation at USM would enable an expansion of existing System-led efforts for
collaboration among USM campuses and enhance opportunities for funding of new
initiatives.
The
presentation regarding USM advancement activities will be delivered by Regent
Barry P. Gossett, chair of the BOR Committee on Advancement, and USM Vice
Chancellor for Advancement Leonard R. Raley.
The
board also will vote on a proposed master of arts in language, literacy and
culture at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). The regents
will hear reports from the councils of university system presidents, faculty,
staff and students. After the public meeting, the board will meet in executive
session.
