M.O.S.T. 2021 State Summit

The theme of the 2021 conference is Using OER to Advance Equity and Inclusion. The COVID-19 pandemic and continuing patterns of racialized violence have brought to the forefront inequities in educational access, preparation, and experiences on our campuses. How might the use of open educational resources (OER) advance equity and inclusion at our postsecondary institutions and statewide? 

M.O.S.T. Commons: A Resource to Support the Shift to Remote Teaching

The Coronavirus pandemic continues to cause major disruptions for Maryland’s communities, institutions, faculty, and students. We recognize the challenges of preparing programs and courses for remote delivery and are encouraging faculty and staff to consider the Maryland Open Source Textbook (M.O.S.T.) Commons as a resource for locating openly licensed educational resources to support learning. 

Screencasting for Beginners: Enhancing your Online Classroom with Video Feedback

Research has shown the importance of feedback for student learning. However, text-heavy feedback can present challenges for both students and instructors. Fortunately, providing video feedback to your online students using free screencasting tools is both achievable and effective. Attend this 90-minute webinar to learn the whys and hows of screencasting and come away with a plan to enhance your online or blended courses with video feedback right away.

Mental Health in the Online Classroom

The prevalence of students with mental health disorders has been on the rise for years. These individuals are on community college campuses and online, and many are not getting treatment because of stigma, financial concerns, or just not being able to recognize that what they are experiencing is a mental health disorder. This session will discuss how to recognize students who may be struggling with their mental health, how to respond appropriately, and how to refer them for additional support.

If you are new to online teaching or an experienced instructor who is creating or adapting a new online course, this webinar will be a fun and helpful session. John Bone, an experienced Allegany College of Maryland faculty member, will help you organize your course and save you stress during the semester. There will be ample time for questions and advice during the session.
